Dolphins gain sweet Revenge

19 June 2010

Wellington : The Wellington scrap through to the WFR XIII World Club Final by narrowly defeating the Alford Aces ( Scotland) 24-21 at home to secure their place in this season’s WFR World Final.

After a dismal show against the Premiership runners up in round 11 of the regular season in Scotland losing 6 – 32 to Alford Aces in doing so almost losing the minor premiership , the Dolphins escaping with the minor title by a six point differential overall.

Today the Dolphins were taking no such luxury by resting players , to the field took the strongest available squad Rabbit007 (Dolphins – CEO) could provide and to add quickly to allow all the possible fairness in the spirit of Competition he took a back seat and got Mrs Rabbit to push the “Run” Button on the WFR Game Engine (In Essence she was the REF) and she then saved the game engine and saved the game file then passed the report over to Rabbit007.

And He began to read the report ….

Nerves were there , especially after the last result against the Aces and as he read he was nervous as he read the worst start at home he could have imagined saw Schalk Burger cross and the Kiwi Nemisis Carlos Spencer Convert after 10 minutes the Aces were ahead 7 – 0 , then after a Burger Forward pass the scrum should have been a straight forward affair but no , a Tighthead from Sean O'Connor  saw Justin Fitzpatrick cross and another Spencer conversion 14 – 0 to the Aces , were we seeing a repeat of round 11 ?

Then came big Ma’a , a great burst through the middle set up the flying Serge Lilo to score under the posts , converted by Weepu 7 – 14 , 21 minutes Gone , THEN from the kick off the Aces blew it with a player in front so Weepu kicked for touch Filli re gathers from the lineout and put it out again , Aces have the trhow in And Jeremy Thrush Steals the Line Out Ball and crashes over , Weepu Converts 14 – 14 GAME ON….

Both teams fought out a tough final 15 minutes of the first half only to see them go back to the sheds sharing the first half spoils.

Tamati Ellison gets the Dolphins Scoreboard ticking again in the 47th minute with a wide out touchdown Weepu misses the conversion 19 – 14 and the dolphins are in front. Then it was Defence Time  , the Aces began throwing everything at the Dolphins for the next 10 minutes the Dolphins were defending in Numbers then in the 56th minute the Aces had a chance with a penalty which Spencer drew to the left to miss .

As we continued the forward battle was immense and it took another darting attacking run from Weepu that set up Dolphins Captain Rodney So’oialo to crash over with several Aces Players on top of him , the Call went to the Video ref , not a great friend this season to the Dolphins but today he was and TRY ! goes up on the big screen , Weepu’s conversion misses 24- 14 to the Dolphins 15 minutes to go.

Carlos spencer gains some great field position in the 66th minute from a penalty and from the ensuing lineout Thom Evans Collects the ball from the line out and steps inside Conrad smith who has had a shocker tonight , to dot under the posts , Spencer Kicks the Conversion and with 14 minutes to go 24 – 21  to the dolphins.

And 14 minutes of Blood and tears with the Dolphin Fans riding on every possession every whistle and in the end they did it a Great Game of RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL….

The Wellington Dolphins are back for the Big Show and the fans are queuing already for tickets for the Grand final in 2 Weeks time. The Alford Aces now travel to Sth Africa and take on the Durban Sports Club in the Qualification Final , the Winner meets Wellington to decide the WFR XIII Champions.

Weymouth Bay Sharks get ready for life in the second Tier of WFR

Despite a poor return on their first season back in WFR, the majority of last years Sharks find themselves returning to the Silver n Black!

A year older n wiser the investment in youth should start to return dividends for the team & much improvement is expected this term from the likes of the Armitage brothers & James Haskell to name a few.

The most significant change to the squad sees the addition of England props, Tim Payne & Dave Flatman. Both players are expected to start & make an immediate impact for a front five that failed to make the grade last season.

Another new signing saw the arrival of Kiwi, Tane Tu'ipulotu who is equally adapt in the 10 or 12 channel. Tane is expected to start at 12 & his experience will give the young Ben Thompson an outlet & more importantly licence to set the back three loose.

The coaching staff normally like to keep things under wraps but the mood from the camp is one of a growing confidence

WFR XIII Details

WFR XIII Draft is around the Corner Literally !

If you want to register WFR Team for WFR XIII please click here and fill in form

Your Team will be included into a New "Conference Three" WOULD love to see more EUROPEAN Teams from Italy , France etc…

But first some House Keeping ….

Attached is your Team Form Guide for WFR XIII

You may Notice you have 1 or 2 players Missing , this is because WFR has found they have retired

Or are injured and are not playing for a period of time

Please check your form guide and if you notice any of your players are retired please inform WFR Immediately.

Also You will Notice a new Column "CONTRACTS" at the far left of your Form Guide

This is a new (OLD) idea for WFR to get us back to the Old Days of WFR

How Will This Happen ?

You Can Contract a player for between 1 and 3 WFR Seasons.

If you Train A Player while on Contract his SALARY will NOT Increase until his Contract is completed.

This allows you to train Players with out Salary Penalty.

And the CATCH ! always is one ;o) , If a Player you have on Contract is released early or retires with time remaining on the contract your club must continue to pay this player till the end of the contract. Meaning you would as example PLAYER A has 300,000 dollar contract Retires or is transferred you must continue to pay his 300,000 for remainder of contract meaning you have 300,000 less in salary cap available the following WFR Season.

This also applies to players who become injured in Real life and Must be removed from your squad.

(In the event that WFR Miss a Injury or Retirement and WFR Believe you Knew and Continue to play this player a Fine of DOUBLE that Players Salary will be imposed which will also be taken of your Salary Cap the Following season PLUS a CLUB fine (to be Determined) charge to your clubs Finances.)

Also as WFR XII was a great Success and great relaunch.. a couple of Changes are in place , Mainly in the Divisional Status. All Conferences will be 12 Teams and same fixture format as WFR XII

PLAYER RELEASE'S

For the current 24 Teams in WFR you can release up to 6 players if you want ….

Which means all teams must retain a minimum of 24 players …

When sending through your release's they will NOT BE ACTIONED unless sent as follows:

Email Subject : 'YOUR TEAM NAME" Player Release's & Contracts

Email BODY:

"Your Team Name" release's the following Players:

Player A

Player B

Player C

Player D

Player E

Player F

"Your Team Name" Signs the Following Contracts:

Player G – 1 Season

Player H – 2 Season's

Player I – 3 Season's

Etc

Etc

In the event you have had players removed due to retirement/Injury you Must still retain 24 Players Minimum.

Again IF The Above player release/contract is not sent 100% as above the request will not be actioned

After the player releases are made and contracts are signed you will receive updated form guide with outline of how much salary cap is available to purchase new players.

The Free Agent List will be updated and sent out with a time set to begin WFR XIII Draft so this gives everyone a chance to send in their selections ( Possibly 2 – 3 Days to check Free Agents)

Again it will be first in First served so have your selections ready with a few back ups in mind if you miss out on a player. (Full details when Draft Begins)

WFR XIII Will be run in Divisional Format As Follows:

Premier Conference : Top 6 Teams from North and South Divisions Qualify,

(With the Demise of Bournemouth WFR Went to the 7th Place Teams from NTH / STH , they were London and Pen Whalers , Peninsula Whalers Had the better Season Record in WFR XII so Shall take Bournemouth's place.)

Conference TWO: Remaining teams from NTH / STH with the inclusion of New Side The Southern Swashbucklers from Otago NZ.

Conference Three: ALL NEW SIDES (12 Required)

We can add More Conference as required.

Top 6 Teams in Conference Two play in Pennant Series

"Only the Top 3 Teams at end of season in Conference Play Will be promoted"

So there ya go check your guides , and be ready for WFR XIII

WFR is growing Again !

Tuqiri Quits Perthshire

Tuqiri will quit his contract with Perthshire Blades and return home in late March.

Lote Tuqiri has been lured back to the NRL, signing a three-year deal with Wests Tigers.

The dual international put pen to paper after weighing up more lucrative offers from rugby union clubs in Europe.

Tuqiri is currently playing for Scottish rugby union side Perthshire Blades and will return to Australia to begin his contract with Wests.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys flew to the UK to finalise the negotiations and says Tuqiri is the biggest signing in the club's 11-year history.

"We made it clear early on that should Lote be interested in returning to rugby league, then Wests Tigers were keen to accommodate him,'' Humphreys said.

The former Brisbane Bronco left the NRL in 2002 but said he was looking forward to his return.

"There is no question the NRL is one of the toughest sporting competitions in the world and I am confident Wests Tigers will enjoy great success in the coming years," Tuqiri said in a statement.

"The opportunity to play under the most experienced coach in the game in Tim Sheens was a major factor in my decision. Wests Tigers is a club with a great culture and a terrific roster of players. I am thrilled to be joining them."

Sheens said the 30-year-old Tuqiri will bring experience and an added X-factor to his squad which already boasts stars such as Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah.

"He has achieved more than most footballers and to have someone of his calibre in our team is a great addition to an already impressive squad of talented players," Sheens said.

"I know one of the main driving reasons behind Lote's decision is that he is very keen to break back into representative footy, something other players coming back from rugby union have been unable to do of late."

Tuqiri played 99 games for the Broncos and won a premiership with the side in 2000.

He also won six caps for Queensland and five for Australia before switching to rugby union to play for the New South Wales Waratahs.

Tuqiri played 76 games for the Waratahs and made his international debut for the Wallabies in 2003.

He also Topped the WFR XII standings as the Highest FORM Player

The outside back went on to win 67 caps for the Wallabies before his contract was terminated by the Australian Rugby Union in July last year for apparent off-field incidents.

"I enjoyed my time in rugby union immensely and have been very fortunate to have made many great friends through my time in the code," Tuqiri said.

Tuqiri follows fellow dual internationals Wendell Sailor and Mat Rogers to return to the NRL after stings in union.

Wests first NRL match of the season is against Manly but Tuqiri is not likely to feature until round three or four.

Perthshire Blades will announce his replacement in the WFR XIII Draft
